Swallowing our tails

Hello, Feastlings.

The ouroboros- you know, that image of a snake or a dragon devouring its own tail- can represent a multitude of ideas, and it appears in Gnosticism, Norse mythology, Indian thought, Jungian psychology, native South American folklore, and scores of other places in scores of other cultures. For me, today, I’m seeing it as a gruesome speeding up of the merry-go-round we’re all riding. I stopped by a drugstore the other day to discover Christmas items being stocked before the Halloween candy was even put on sale, and I felt like the snake was eating its tail so fast its head would pass it a second time. The holidays always make me want out.

In the interest of easing your holiday load, we’ll be making Thanksgiving meals again for our twenty-second year running, and we encourage you, as we encourage you to vote, early. Do it now and let everyone else eat their own tail while you quietly raise a glass to yourself, secure in the knowledge that you can cross Thanksgiving off your to-do list even before you put a pen to paper.

The menu look like this,

Thanksgiving, and giving thanks

and we’ve got 65 turkeys ordered from Redbird, and all the accoutrements will be handy as well, so we look forward to serving some up to you and yours, and perhaps serving a little bit up to us and ours as well.

In the meantime, we’ll be doing all the stuff we usually do. This Saturday, on Halloween, we’ll serve up our end-of-the-month wine tasting,

We found some wines we love.

and the lunch and dinner menu will change next Tuesday, November 3rd. We’ll do a couple of special things in the interim- we’ll be making another donation run to GAP ministries soon, so if you’d like to donate a meal to someone who needs help, you can do it through us by calling (520) 326-9363, or by donating directly to them at https://gapmin.com/

Come December, we’ll also be serving up a benefit dinner after the Rogue Theatre’s one-man presentation of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, and you can see both events on this page:

https://www.theroguetheatre.org/buy-tickets

If you scroll down a bit, you’ll see the information for Neil McGarry in his one-man show, and if you scroll a bit further, you’ll see the information about the dinner that follows, here at Feast, all Victorian and full of goose and Christmas pudding, sausages and oysters and cabbages, at 5:00 pm on Sunday, December 6th, a meal composed of dishes from the Christmas classic. Tickets are only available through the Rogue Theatre’s website, as it’s a benefit dinner for the Rogue.

I’ll remind you, in case it’s escaped you, that you can already cast a ballot if you’ve received one in the mail, though today’s the last day you should mail it back, so if you’ve gotten one and haven’t sent it, you can drop it off at a drop box any time between now and Election Day, which coincides with New Menu Day, a week from today. If you’re wondering where to vote, or to drop off your early ballot, please visit the Pima Votes webpage.

With your ballot checked and your Thanksgiving food ordered, you’ll be able to put your feet up this evening, perhaps eat something comforting, take a walk in the cool evening breeze, and be happy for a spell.

See you soon.

Your friend,

Doug
