Dear Feastlings,
Yesterday, I knew I wouldn’t get it written. We had a wine dinner with Amy McCandlish Esper of the Eyrie Vineyards in one dining room, a couple of big groups in the other, no phone or internet for the preceding afternoon and the following morning, and a prep cook who was knocked down in a parking lot by a car that wasn’t moving fast enough to kill her, but managed to break a wrist and a kneecap. In the end, everything worked out well, unless you’re Maria, her wrist or her kneecap, but we’re all looking out for her and the person who hit her did have insurance, so we’ll hope for the best.
Today was interrupted by some last-minute supply issues for a wedding this weekend, the labor scramble to cover our injured prep cook and a steady stream of purveyors wanting face time. So here we are, at 5:00 on a Wednesday, scribbling a little note that does *not* include a Thanksgiving carryout menu (though I promise to get that out by Halloween), but does make mention of this Saturday’s wine tasting
and lets you know that a Thanksgiving menu is forthcoming, as is next week’s end-of-the-month wine tasting with food pairings. You’ll also soon get a note about a fundraiser dinner we’re doing with the Rogue Theatre on December 6, a one-off Sunday event called Ebeneezer’s Feast, a dinner of treats from the one-man Christmas Carol that the Rogue will be presenting that afternoon.
In the meantime, I just wanted to remind you all that however calm it looks out front, no restaurant is peaceful behind the kitchen door, and to encourage you to come try wines you’re afraid of on this pre-Halloween Saturday tasting.
Wish Maria a speedy recovery, and know that, if all goes as planned, we’ll have a host of events to tell you about next week, and a new menu the week after. In the meantime, come say hello and grab a bite and a sip. Frantic as we are in some respects, in others, we’re really quite quiet and looking forward to seeing you.
Your pal,
Doug
