A rose by any other name

Dear Feastlings,

After years of throwing parties for Spain and France and Italy each summer, I was excited to offer up some regional American fare this year and hand out deals on domestic wines alongside them, and so we are:

Amber waves of grain

The timing, however, might be interpreted as support for the recent attempted renamings of lakes and states and what-have-you. Gulfs and the like. Let me just mention here that the only unilateral change I’m currently rooting for is our menu, which is meant to change each month, and meant not to antagonize, but rather to tantalize and engage. While Google and Apple may show their bellies, we don’t publish a map, nor do we have anything to gain by doing so, and therefore, we have no maps to rewrite- just menus. Every month. For 25 years and change, now. Anyhow, in addition to the current menu, we’ll be serving that special menu on the 29th and 30th, and to get us all in the mood for it, this week’s wine tasting is all American fare as well, and we encourage you to stop in and taste with us:

Closer to home

You’ve also got the better part of this week to enjoy Sonoran Restaurant Week, which runs through Saturday here at Feast and through Sunday at another 123 restaurants in and around town.

In the meantime, we’ll keep on doing neighborly things- last Saturday, thanks to your generosity and with some extra thrown in for good measure from our part, we took over 150 meals out to GAP ministries again to help people experiencing food insecurity. And next week, I couldn’t make my schedule work with Arizona Public Media, but our friend Robert Fleming will be on NPR this Saturday, September 12, from 7:00 to 11:00 am, and he’s graciously agreed to bring with him a couple of Feast gift certificates that I handed him last week, so while you won’t hear me coughing into the microphone or stammering and sputtering my way through the fund drive, you’ll still be able to call in for a chance to win a Feast gift certificate, should you choose to. Just do it this Saturday before you come to the wine tasting.

We have more in the works- a wine dinner with Amy McCandlish Esper of the Eyrie Vineyards on October 20th, and other plans that have yet to solidify, but we promise to keep you well sated with food and drink as we edge into autumn. Meanwhile, we thank you for your kind support, your contributions to our food donation runs, and just how charming and pleasant you are to all of us. We feel treated like family, and we hope you do, too.

See you soon,

Your friends at Feast
