The kind and generous people of Tucson

Dear Feastlings,

As much as it may not sound like it by the tone of my emails, I am, in fact, supremely grateful to live here. Yes, I’ll bloviate about the heat and the road construction and the lack of business, but last week, despite the intensity of all the prep and mayhem that come with three big events within the span of a few days, people turned out in great numbers, first for Primavera Cooks,

Primavera Cooks!

which continues on in other restaurants throughout the summer, but for Ferragosto, which we celebrated both Friday and Saturday. The whole staff was justifiably frayed by the end of the week, but it appears we’ve mostly recovered and are back to drumming our fingers, but drumming them with a little less fear of the cruelties of the Tucson summer. It’s good to know that we live in a place where people come together to help one another, and the turnout for the Primavera benefit was encouraging, as was that fact that a number of you have contributed of late to our donation runs, the next one of which will be again to GAP ministries on September 5th. Again, for every three meals donated by the community, we’ll donate a fourth, continuing to help people suffering the repercussions of the erosion of SNAP benefits.

We’ll also be here to treat our own little Feast community to the treats you so richly deserve as well- we have a wine tasting this Saturday

and I’m working away at the September menu, which will offer some new seafood options, among other things.

You’ll also have two more weeks and change to avail yourselves of our summertime wine deals, which fade into memory come Labor Day, and here’s a little reminder as to how and what you can save,

What I saved on my summer vacation

plus, we’re cobbling together our menu for Sonoran Restaurant Week, which begins on September 4th. We’re submitting that to Tucson Foodie on Friday.

In the meantime, it’ll be a quieter sort of week around here- the kind of week in which you don’t need to plan weeks ahead for a reservation, the kind of week in which you can still get squash blossoms or roasted strawberry shortcake before they drift off the menu, and the kind of week in which you can soak up some of our gratitude when you drop in for a bite, or a bottle, or what-have-you.

Love,

Your friends at Feast
