What I saved on my summer vacation

Oh, Feastlings,

It’s no secret to anyone why people leave Tucson each May.  Those of us who remain behind while our winter neighbors go to become the summer neighbors of people in cooler climes would love the opportunity to chill literally as well as figuratively.

In an attempt to give everyone some cause for joy here and there despite what looks to be a toasty summer, we at Feast try to offer special events here and there, for certain, but we also figure the opportunity to save a few bucks will help us sell a few extra bottles here and there.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day, therefore, we institute a couple of wine deals to help you save some cash and to help us generate some.

Many of you are familiar with our pricing structure: wine by the bottle at Feast is priced at suggested retail with a built-in fifteen-dollar corkage.  That is, wine at the table here is ever so slightly above what you could expect to pay when you buy a bottle pretty much anywhere- yes, even a big box store- as opposed to the normal restaurant markup of two or three or more times wholesale pricing.  A normal restaurant charges you for one glass what they pay for a bottle, and they charge you for a bottle what you might pay retail for two or three or more.  We’d argue that it’s already a value to have wine with your meal here, but from Memorial Day until Labor Day, we sweeten the deal thusly: if you have a bottle at the table that you enjoy so much that you decide to take another bottle of it home, we waive that built-in corkage, so you save a cool fifteen bucks, and now you pay for wine with your dinner what you’d pay to drink the same bottle from a paper bag in the parking lot.  You know, should you choose to.

The other summertime deal we offer is this: we normally give a 10% discount on a twelve-bottle case, but during this summer period, any six bottles will get you that 10% discount, and a dozen will get you 15% off.  Time to start looking the list over.
