Dear Feastlings,
It’s a quiet day today at Feast, and I imagine throughout town. The Summer Solstice brings with it that langour-inspiring heat that all but immobilizes Tucsonans. I know on my own day off, I woke with the intention of getting out and about a little bit, only to be robbed of the impetus simply by opening the door and feeling the heft of the heat on what I reckon was a tie for the second longest day of the year. But the Solstice has also brought with it the Saint’s Day celebration that took over the pagan spot on the calendar, and I have to hand it to the Church: they know how to throw a party. In Spain and Portugal, bonfires dot the beaches in recognition of the day, and here at Feast, we in turn prepare significant quantities of Spanish and Portuguese dishes and mark all our Spanish and Portuguese wines down by $15 a bottle ($8 for half bottles) and an enjoyable time is had by all. You can see our Las Hogueras de San Juan menu here:
There’s still room to join us if you’d like, so if you find yourself in the mood for salt cod or saffron and an Iberian thirst quencher, tomorrow’s a good day to visit Feast. Saturday, on the other hand, is a good day to visit if you’re in the mood to taste what place does to wine- our buddy Rob will be here at 2:00 with four wines inextricably linked to the places they’ve been produced.
So if you find yourself tomorrow or Saturday wishing that there was a reason to leave the house, you’ve got a reason for each day, and we’d love to see you. Thanks for sticking around town and giving us something to do as well.
Your pal,
Doug
