Dear Feastlings,
When you open a restaurant, no one tells you that the time you spend working will not be at the stove. Nor do they tell you it will be spent at home and on the way in to work. Mercifully, after a trip to the hardware store, a not-open-yet Best Buy (I’m not a Big Box guy, but many of you know we’re not close to our neighbor next door, who sells what I need but also locks our guests’ cars in his parking lot and has them towed away in a remarkable display of pettiness (says he: “it’s wear and tear of my parking lot,” which I still have trouble getting over, so I can’t bring myself to shop there,) an office supply and the grocery store. Then a conversation with the people who repaired our oven over the $52 trip charge combined with a $53 “zone charge,” a $14.95 fuel surcharge and a $48 freight charge on four-ounce, four-inch part. I knew I was in the wrong business, but forget how wrong it is until I get an invoice like that one. There’s also been a talk with the IT guy about a computer that’s been misbehaving.
It’s not the romantic image of a chef tasting a sauce and wafting the aromatic steam from above a stock pot into sensitive nostrils, which many an unsuspecting recent culinary graduate discovers to great dismay upon landing a restaurant job.
Anyhow, I’ve gotten home just in time to dash off this email before you all start calling to tell me I’ve forgotten to post the passcode or send the email, which, in fairness, I do on occasion. Today’s tasting still has room in it, either at Feast or remotely, and you can join us for this one
today at 2:00 if you’re so inclined. If you do it remotely, here’s how to do so:
Topic: Viva Espana
Time: Jun 25, 2022 02:00 PM Arizona
Join Zoom Meeting
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/86768472797?pwd=774uSI0flEncxNF4m77HTEoM3GdAcA.1
Meeting ID: 867 6847 2797
Passcode: 678186
And you’re also welcome to join us for tomorrow’s remotely-only tasting (you’ll have to pick up your stuff today, I’m afraid, but it’s here and waiting if you’re so inclined) at 3:30:
There are still a few sets of samples and snacks. Call us at (520) 326-9363 and we’ll set some aside for you.
Another reminder, if you didn’t read last evening’s email: I’ve donated gift certificates to Arizona Public Media even though my segment was pre-empted, so if you call on Monday between 8 and 10 in the morning, you’ll still be entered into a drawing to win one. If you’re so inclined.
And with that, I’ll pack up my stuff, meet the IT guy and hope that the new cable I bought this morning fixes the problem we’ve had with the sound in the private dining room at the wine tastings the past two Saturdays. Wish us luck.
Doug
