Family matters

Dear Feastlings,

As staffing everywhere ebbs and flows, our old pal Jennifer has graciously agreed to join us for another Saturday wine tasting, and while the Old World/New World comparison can be a bit, well, already done, this week we’ve brought a twist to the comparison, one which begs the nature/nurture question.

Maybe you’ve heard of Robert Haas, and maybe you haven’t, but to catch you up if you’ve yet to learn about him, he was the guy who in 1973 started a company called Vineyard Brands.  Vineyard Brands was the first importer to bring the wines of the Perrin Family, i.e. Château de Beaucastel, to the US.  Thus was intensified an interest and appreciation of the wines of the Southern Rhône in the New World, and the Rhône Rangers were born.

While it was Bob’s metier to import wine, his dream to was make his own, and he eventually created a program to allow his employees to take over the import company and he, in turn, with cuttings from the Perrin Family’s vineyards, planted Tablas Creek, working with Perrin Family staff, and to this day, Tablas Creek walks the line between Old World and New World.

On Saturday, April 4, Jennifer will show up at 2 pm to tell you the stories of the wineries and the wines.  If you’d like to join us, bring $20 plus tax and tip on the day, but please reserve a seat so that we know how many servings to pour.  You can reach us at (520) 326-9363.
