Dear Feastlings,
A few decades ago, there was a mighty source of affordable and innocuous wine, and it was America. There was another source of even more affordable, innocuous wine, and it was South America. In the ensuing years, little by little, families like the Lurtons and the Rothschilds started poking their heads into South America, and with more and more back and forth between the Old World and the New, the quality of the wines coming out of South America kept improving, and while prices have increased as well, they haven’t kept pace with the improvements in quality, and thus South American wines continue to be a better value than many of their counterparts from elsewhere.
This week, our pal Mike joins us with four wines from the other side of the equator, all of which are still American wines nonetheless- on Saturday, August 9th, at 2:00 pm, we’ll pull the corks from wines from Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, and you’ll renew your awareness that South American wines aren’t those bottom-shelf grocery store wines of yore. They’re balanced, well-built wines that proudly declare their origins on the nose and the palate both. If you’d like to to join us to taste them, we encourage you to give us a call at (520) 326-9363 to make your reservation. The tasting costs $18 plus tax and tip. Come join us- it’ll be delicious.
Another whole America
