Hello there, Feastlings.
In addition to our Saturday wine tastings, we step it up on the last Sunday of each month and host a tasting of six wines, some a little fancier than others, and offer food pairings alongside the wines. This month we’re joined by our old friend Dylan Higgins, who’s bringing six iterations of the Pinot grape- a Pinot Blanc, a Pinot Grigio, a Rosé of Pinot Noir and three full-fledged red Pinot Noirs as well. The tasting is only $30 plus tax and tip, and it will take place on Sunday, September 30, at 3:30 pm. Reservations are required, but web and email reservations won’t hold you a place, so if you’d like to join us, please give a call at 326-9363. We hope you can make it.
Pinots of the World
2016 Four Graces Pinot Blanc, Willamette Valley $21.00
This 2016 Pinot Banc is light, fresh and lively. It begins with fragrant aromas of orange blossom, yellow peach and river rock. The palate has a pleasing acidity that balances flavors of Asian pear and mandarins. Elegant and finessed.
2016 Jermann Pinot Grigio, Friuli $21.00
Pinot Grigio from Pinot Grigio grapes, part-fermented as a white wine. It has an intense straw-yellow colour with a light nuance of antique rose. Its aroma is intense, full and fruity, with excellent persistence. Its taste is dry, velvety, and particularly well-orchestrated for its full body.
2016 Calera Vin Gris of Pinot Noir, Central Coast $21.00
A blast of fresh, ripe strawberry, raspberry zing and lemon zest make a lively start to this spunky dry rosé! Crafted from two local Central Coast Pinot Noir vineyards, it’s rich like a creamsicle® and succulent like a watermelon candy; bright, refreshing and full of flavor, it’s the perfect anytime sipper.
2015 Nicolas Potel Bourgogne Rouge $18.00
Made from parcels in Santenay, Pommard, Volnay, Chambolle Musigny and Vosne-Romanee (80%) as well as declassified village appellations of Auxey Duresses and Maranges (20%). This wine has a bouquet of red cherries, fern, white flowers and spices. On the palate, fine toasted notes with honey that give way to long lasting notes of black fruits. The tannins are silky and well balanced. The finish is beautiful and full. Light dusty ruby color. Aromas of strawberry, sour cherry, cinnamon, and cola with an tangy, dry medium body and an appealing, medium-length, sour plum, and banana finish with well-integrated tannins. A well-balanced, elegant Pinot Noir.
2015 Calera Central Coast Pinot Noir, Central Coast $24.00
The bouquet possesses a lovely mix of richness, fruit and savory like blackberry pie; quite comforting. On the palate we find intriguing hints of pink rose, briar, red currant, violets and spice; this Pinot has an alluring silky texture with deep flavors of black cherry, baking spice and a whisper of licorice. It’s nicely structured and lingers beautifully on the finish.
2015 Purple Hands, Stoller Vineyard, Dundee Hills $54.00
Hickory smoke, red strawberry, red licorice, savory spice, black licorice, sweet orange rind, and a delicate, broad, powerful mid-palette and finish.
