Father figure

Dear Feastlings,

When Feast opened 24 years ago, I wasn’t a father, but my nephews were mere wisps. The two older ones’ idea of a good time was to go out back behind the restaurant and run down the eighteen-inch incline and have me swing open the door to our walk-in refrigerator just in time for them to use what momentum they’d gathered to burst into that chilly storeroom.

Twenty-four years later, they dwarf me, as does their little brother, and I’m old enough to be a parental figure to a good thirty or forty percent of the staff here. That’s been enough to make me feel I made the right choice to avoid fatherhood, but I commend those of you who’ve made that decision. I’m no dad, but mine’s pretty great, and my brother’s a great dad, too, and while people don’t seem to eat out as much on Father’s Day as they do on Mother’s Day, we thought it only right to hang out our shingle on Father’s Day for brunch. We’ll be seating from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and then we’ll turn the dads loose to park themselves in front of a grill, or get a card with a golf club or a fishing rod on it, and love their young ones.

Brunch or not, there’ll be some heartier fare than eggs on the menu as well, and you can see the Father’s Day specials, which we’ll be offering in addition to our regular menu, on Father’s Day, Sunday the 15th, here:

Civilized brunch for the civilized fathers out there

We’ve also got what I can only assume is a tour bus parking at Feast the day before for our Saturday wine tasting, which happens at 2:00 pm on the 14th.

How to feel young again

There’s more to be discovered, though not until I’ve cobbled it together. This week’s project is to square away the Hogueras de San Juan menu, an assortment of Spanish goodies and a waived corkage to allow you to drink Spanish wines at retail price all day long. I’ll have that menu posted by next week, but know that it happens on Tuesday, June 24th, and it’s historically been a treat and a half. More about that soon.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend, or before, or after, or all three.

Thanks so much,

Doug and all your other friends at Feast
