Hello, Feastlings,
If you ever find yourself ambling around Santa Barbara County, as you work your way east, you’ll eventually find yourself in Los Olivos, which one of our dearest wine-centric guests used to refer to as the Mayberry of California. If you’ve not been, it’s a charming town, and to the south, you’ll find Beckmen Vineyards, a winery many of you know from what we’ve poured over the years here at Feast. As it happens, if you proceed two miles to the north of Beckmen, you’ll have followed Joey Tensley’s path from assistant winemaker at Beckmen to what’s now the Tensley Wine Company, on the corner of Grand and Alamo Pintado.
Mind you, Joey started the Tensley Wine Company in 1998, and by 2005, as Feast was knocking down the wall in its original location, Tensley wines snuck into Arizona and onto Feast’s wine list. So we’ve long been fans of Joey’s wines, be they at Beckmen or at Babcock before that, but most especially at Tensley, where he’s doing what feels right to him: unabashedly New World wines that balance ripeness and intensity of fruit with grace and with spice, and with a finish that will stick your memory. Joey will be here at Feast on Tuesday, December 9th, at 6:00 pm, when we’ll be making a dinner built to highlight the charms he’s bottled for you.
You can reserve a seat for that evening with a simple telephone call to (520) 326-9363, and we’ll be offering his wines at a discount that evening for those of you who find yourselves as smitten as we are.
