Mmmm. Carrots.

Dear Feastlings,

A tremendous thank you to those of you who joined us on Friday for Ferragosto, and to those of you who came in Saturday instead for an unseasonably busy evening. Today seems rather more like summer again, but at least the weather app that I use is dangling a carrot in the shape of a 15% chance of rain in front of us, and progressing next week to a 24% and even a 38% chance. Mmmm. Carrots.

Whether it rains or not, it’s at least feeling like there’s a shift, and I’ll gratefully take it. Our selection of Bruce McGrew paintings is up through October, and there’ll be an opening- a tardy one, I know, but we wanted to do it when people had begun to return to town- on Sunday, September 7th. Nothing fancy, really- a no-host bar and the opportunity to take in Bruce’s work while nobody is dining beneath it, but afterward, the chance to dine beneath it. At 5:00 pm, we’ll span the distance from Rancho Linda Vista to Willcox, when Bodega Pierce vineyard manager Dan Pierce, who also happens to be the father of winemaker Michael Pierce, will be here with us to talk about the wines, and we’ll have cooked up a dinner to serve alongside some of the more Old World-style Arizona wines I’ve tasted yet.

We’ll be posting the menu at the end of this week, fate allowing, as we’re still waiting for the wines to come in so I can taste them again with an eye toward creating a dish that will pair nicely with each one. That said, I have high hopes, higher hopes even than I have for the day there’s a 38% chance of rain. In the meantime, there are comforting clouds in the sky, a tasting of Portuguese wines this Saturday with our pal Megan,

No Port in a storm

and a couple more weeks of stuffed squash blossoms, if that’s your thing. Also, if it’s not your thing. But we’ll be happy to see you whether you order them or not.

Thanks, everyone.

Your friend Doug
