Dear Feastlings,
It’s very nearly summer. Technically, it begins in another week, I believe, though I certainly could have been convinced it had already begun when my wife suggested an after-dinner walk Monday night and we discovered it was still over 100 degrees out.
Summer is chockablock with pros and cons.
Pro: the traffic’s not so bad.
Con: It’s hot.
Pro: you can get into a restaurant or a movie without planning in advance.
Con: if you can get into a restaurant or a movie without planning in advance for too long, the restaurant or movie theater will be on the ropes at some point.
Pro: Mornings are quiet and pretty.
Con: Hot. Again. Hot.
Pro: around here, we kick off the summer by celebrating Las Hogueras de San Juan, the Spanish holiday celebrating St. John the Baptist and the Summer Solstice with beaches dotted with bonfires. The difference it that we celebrate it Spanish food and drink, and it’s a hoot. You can join us Tuesday the 24th for the festivities, and it should make for a reason to go out despite the heat.
The menu is here,
and if you’ve notice that there’s no corkage on Spanish wines that day but are unsure as to which Spanish wines you like, you might want to drop by this Saturday the 21st for a tasting of Spanish wines with our pal Megan:
That said, I don’t blame you if you hole up in an air-conditioned spot and nap your day away. I likely would if I weren’t here kicking up some Spanish fun.
Happy beginning of summer, everyone.
Love,
Doug
