Early birds and worms

Dear Feastlings,

On the one hand, I need to get this out to you post-haste. This Saturday’s wine tasting is a special one, with high-end wines and food pairings, but more importantly, it’s a look at the past and the present, or the present and the future, or the past and the future, depending on how you look at it.

The gist of it is this: wine tastes different after it’s hung out with oxygen for a bit, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse, and this Saturday, we’ll be tasting wines that have been open only for a moment, and we’ll be tasting them alongside the same wines, only that they’ll have been open for two days. The caveat, of course, is that if you want the full experience, you’ll need to let us know by tomorrow, so we can pour your second round of tastes two days in advance. So the clock is ticking.

Now and later

On the other hand, the clock may have already run out if you’re thinking about joining us for the Tablas Creek Vineyard wine dinner next week with Darren Delmore, on Leap Day. At this point, it’s sold out, but there’s usually one character or another whose meticulously crafted plans fall through at the eleventh hour, so if you have some flexibility in your schedule and you love delicious wine and food built to accompany it, it still behooves you to call us up at (520) 326-9363 and put your name on what at this point is a lilliputian waiting list. If not, there’s still time to join us for this Saturday’s tasting, but again, duty now for the future: give us a chance to pour your samples and show you firsthand what a difference a day makes. Or, ideally, two days.

If, unlike myself, you’re a planner, you can also consider joining us for the other rapidly-filling dinner on March 19th, though I should warn you that other planners are rapidly filling that dinner as well. So give us a jingle if you’d like to come mingle.

And then? Come mingle. We’d love to see you.
